Glycogen metabolism (main aspects)

Glycogenesis
- Type of metabolic pathway: anabolic
- Main goal: glycogen synthesis from glucose
- Subcellular localization: cytosol
- Energetic output: -1 UTP per added glucose (although it is only 1 UTP molecule that is consumed, it is hydrolyzed to UMP, that is, there are two high-energy phosphate bonds that are broke down)

Glycogenolysis
- Type of metabolic pathway: catabolic
- Main goal: glycogen degradation in order to obtain glucose
- Subcellular localization: cytosol
- Energetic output: glucose-6-phosphate without ATP consumption
